Suppression of heavy flavors at RHIC & LHC
نویسنده
چکیده
Some of the open questions on jet quenching are expected to be clarified by measuring heavy–flavored mesons at high transverse momentum. The formalism based on radiative in-medium energy–loss, which describes other high-pt results at RHIC, gives definite predictions for the suppression of charm and beauty quarks. However, the uncertainties from both contributions to the observed electrons make the interpretation of the data difficult due to the absence of a well calibrated benchmark. We review the present situation as well as the consequences for the future LHC. We also comment on the use of heavy flavored jet angular correlations as an additional tool to study the underline dynamics of jet quenching.

Quarkonia and heavy flavors at the LHC
Perspectives for measurements of quarkonia and heavy flavors in heavy ion collisions at the LHC are reviewed. 1 Quarkonia and heavy flavors: what is different at the LHC With a nucleus-nucleus center-of-mass energy nearly 30 times larger than the one reached at RHIC, the LHC will open a new era for studying the properties of strongly interacting matter at extreme energy densities [1]. One of th...
متن کاملEffect of Shadowing on Charm and Bottom Production at RHIC and LHC
We study the influence of nuclear shadowing on the production of heavy quark/anti-quark pair at LHC and RHIC energies. While we do not find any qualitative difference in the production of heavy quarks at RHIC and LHC, a significant reduction in the production cross section of charm and bottom quarks is apparent at high energies. The occurence of bound states such as J/Ψ is suppressed by this re...
متن کاملJet Physics in ALICE
The strong suppression of high-pT hadrons observed in heavy ion collisions at RHIC indicates the interaction of high energy partons with a dense colored medium prior to hadronization. We review the main results from the high-pT hadron analysis at RHIC and what they tell us about the medium. We then concentrate on the new possibilities that the wider kinematic range at the LHC will offer and how...
متن کاملSuppression of Quarkonium Production in Heavy Ion Collisions at RHIC and LHC
A model for the production of quarkonium states in the midrapidity region at RHIC and LHC energy range is presented which explores well understood properties of QCD only. An increase of the quarkonium hadronisation time with the initial energy leads to a gradual change of the most important phenomena from fixed targetto collider-energies. We evaluate nuclear effects in the quarkonium production...
متن کاملStrangeness production from SPS to LHC
Global strangeness production in relativistic heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC is reviewed. Special emphasis is put on the comparison with the statistical model and the canonical suppression mechanism. It is shown that recent RHIC data on strange particle production as a function of centrality can be explained by a superposition of a fully equilibrated hadron gas and particle emission from ...
